About Inter-Organising Network - Glasgow

A social and physical space for people to connect with existing groups and projects, building towards a future of equity, autonomy, and collective strength.

What is ION?

Why is it called ION?

The prefix "Inter-" describes ION's intention to bring together and operate in-between many existing groups and communities. It also gestures at other closely related meanings, such as:

Who is it for?

People involved in ION will have a common belief in their power to build positive, welcoming communities and will be committed to fighting the harms of capitalism, the oppressions of hierarchy and the coercion of all people. They will be passionate about doing this without relying on leaders, parties or elected officials, and will oppose the violence of the state.

ION is in enthusiastic solidarity against racism, sexism, ableism, classism, homophobia, transphobia, and all other forms of bigotry, in the understanding that we are engaged in shared struggle.

How does it work?

Anyone, anywhere, who is interested in doing this kind of work is welcome to autonomously organise their own local network under the ION banner. In each network, everyone has a part to play and nobody is in charge.

People will gather together at regular events to converse, connect and share their experience.

Local radical groups, projects and spaces are invited to make requests and offers while sharing overviews, knowledge and news. Anyone who attends is able to network with, and between, those groups.

In this way, ION persistently coordinates movement-building work, from resource sharing to mutual aid, research, and political education.

ION allows for people to work autonomously on specific projects, but to do so in solidarity, community, and coordination with others who share the same principles and perspectives.
