The Collective Care Club is a new project that aims to organise socials, events, and nights out in and around Glasgow which prioritise accessibility and collective care in order to create spaces for those who cannot access, or do not feel welcome at, many traditional social events and spaces.
Why?
Disabled and chronically ill people are rarely centred in society, let alone in event spaces. For many events, accessibility is overlooked entirely or it is treated as an afterthought to be tacked on once the core of an event has been designed (at which point it is often too late to remove certain access barriers).
We know accessibility is complex and multifaceted, not a simple checklist. We know that we too will make mistakes and unintentionally cause harm at times. However, by taking an accessibility-forward approach, we aim to make truly good faith attempts at organising events that are more accessible by default.
